The Scientific/Grant Writer's (the writer) primary responsibility is to coordinate all aspects of grant preparation and submission, and to creatively and strategically evaluate new opportunities for research funding. The Writer will also assist in the preparation of manuscripts and research material in support of the research team at MiCare, and will ensure that he/she remains current on the requirements and timelines from granting bodies in addition to calls for new research funding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Works in close collaboration with the Director, MiCare research teams and/or other Investigators to prepare grant information, and curriculum vitae to achieve success in grant proposals.
- Facilitates the development of letters of intent and final applications.
- Designs in association with research grant and academic proposals, letters of intent, background documentation and program rationales
- Acts as a resource for the Centre with respect to research funding opportunities
Acts as a liaison to research teams to translate research initiatives and concepts into written documentation
- Conducts library searches and selects project related background material as needed.
- Works with research teams to draft and edit manuscripts of project findings for submission to peer reviewed journals
- Works with research teams to submit abstracts and prepare material for presentations at local, national and international meetings/conferences
- Stays current on developments in outcomes research and legislation and regulation governing access, use and disclosure of information for research purposes.
- Stays current with respect to granting agency timelines and requirements including calls for new research grants

Additional Information:
Qualifications:
- Master degree (PhD preferred) in biology, medical or health science area
- Minimum 2 years experience in a healthcare research environment writing grant proposals, manuscripts and other research documents
- Experience in a healthcare research environment including an understanding of research methodology
- Knowledge and understanding of academic granting, research ethics, and academic publication policies and procedures (preferred)
