FAQ
The Basics
What is BioMedComJobs.ca?
BioMedComJobs is owned by Amanda Strong, a medical writer based in Montreal. The site was set up to facilitate contact between various professionals working in the field of biomedical communications in Canada.
Our concept in setting this site up was simplicity, so we don’t have all the bells and whistles of the larger job boards and networking sites. Instead, what we offer is the ability to search for a job, event or professional opportunities in your field of expertise: biomedical and health care communications.
How much does it cost to register?
Registration is always free.
Why should I register?
Registration allows you to post a profile, jobs or events. If you are freelance or seeking a job, posting a profile is a good way to find collaborators or potential employers. If you are an event organizer, posting an event exposes it to a wider audience, for free!
Why should I subscribe to your newsletter?
The newsletter aggregates job and event postings and delivers them to your inbox. Newsletters are also periodically sent out with tips for job searching, finding clients, and advancing your professional skills, or other information of interest to professionals in the field of biomedical communications.
How much does it cost to search jobs or profiles?
Searching jobs, profiles or events is free and you don’t need to register to do this. Simply use the search boxes on the right side of the home page to search for key words within postings. For a more detailed search, click on the search button on the main menu to access advanced search options.
How much does it cost to post a job?
To celebrate our launch, posting a job is free until April 30th, 2010. Simply sign-up and create your job posting!
How can I get notifications about new jobs or events?
We currently have two options. Either subscribe to the RSS feed or subscribe to the newsletter.
What is on your RSS feed?
Subscribing to the RSS feed will deliver newly posted jobs and events to your RSS reader. To subscribe simply click on the feed icon on the top right of the page.
Why are all posts manually approved?
Posta are approved by a real, live person in order to decrease the likelihood of fake postings by spam-bots or live spammers. We apologise for the inconvenience. Most posts are approved with 72 hours. If it’s been longer than that for your initial profile, job or event post to be approved, please drop us an e-mail.
Posting a Job
Do I need to be registered to post a job?
Yes. Registration is required for any posting activity.
How long do job posts stay up on the site?
When you submit your job post, please indicate a closing date for applications. The job post will then automatically expire the day after and will no longer be visible to visitors. If no closing date is submitted, the post will be set to expire three weeks after the posting date.
My job posting expired, can I re-activate it?
Yes. Please e-mail us with the title of the job post, the approximate date when the original post was made, and the new closing date. We will reactivate it for you. Once it is reactivated, you can edit it if you want to.
Creating a Profile
What should I put in my profile?
We recommend keeping your profile focused and brief with links to outside sources for more information such as your own Web site, LinkedIn profile, portfolio etc. Think of your profile on BioMedComJobs.ca as your ‘elevator pitch’. Don’t forget to include contact information. (p.s., If you include your e-mail address in the appropriate field it should be hidden from spam-bots.)
How do I upload a CV?
We currently do not offer this feature. We recommend linking to your professional profile on LinkedIn or uploading your CV to Scribd (or a similar service) and linking to that.
Why don’t you allow uploading a CV?
There are many Web sites that allow you to create a detailed profile or upload you CV. They do this much better than we can, and we see no need to reinvent the wheel. Using them also provides you with additional networking opportunities.
Posting an Event
What kinds of events do you accept?
We will consider any event that is related to biomedical communications, including conferences, seminars, workshops, and social or networking events. All event listing must have valid contact information such as an e-mail address, phone number or Web site.
Newsletter
How do I subscribe to the BioMedComJobs newsletter?
You can sign-up one of two ways. Either select the box “Subscribe to our mailing list” during the registration process; or enter your e-mail address in sign-up form on the right side of the Web site. Once you’ve signed-up, you will receive an e-mail asking you to confirm your subscription by clicking on a link in the e-mail. This process is known as ‘confirmed opt-in’ or ‘double opt-in’ and is required for us to be compliant with Canadian anti-spamming laws.
Why should I subscribe to the BioMedComJobs Newsletter?
The newsletter is delivered by e-mail to the address that you used to register with the site. It contains alerts for new job or event postings, as well as links to articles and information about different types of jobs in the field, job search strategies, improving professional skills, and more.

Troubleshooting Postings
I put paragraph breaks in my ‘bio’ but they’re not appearing.
This is a known that seems to appear periodically for some users. We haven’t quite figured out how to fix it. If this is happening to you, please contact us by e-mail and let us know.
I’m logged in, but when I try to post I’m taken to the sign-up or login screen again.
This happens when you click on the links from the home page. Instead, please click on the “My Posts” button on the top right of your screen.
I made changes to my profile, job or event posting and it hasn’t been approved yet.
For some reason we don’t always receive a ‘change pending’ notification when users change their profile, job or event posting. We generally check for approval requests daily, Monday through Friday, but if you want to make sure we see it, please don’t hesitate to drop us an e-mail letting us know that you’ve got an edit pending.
